First glass syringe specifically for insulin injection is manufactured
1932
First automatic syringe is developed, designed to insert the needle at the proper depth and angle for insulin injection
1969
First “self-contained” insulin syringe is developed with a permanently attached needle
1997
First “short needle” insulin syringe (8mm) is launched
1999
Shortest, thinnest insulin pen needle at that time is introduced (5mm, 31G)
2003
Thin wall technology is introduced on the cannula
2009
An even smaller and thinner pen needle is created (4mm, 32G)
2011
BD AutoShield™ Duo, the first safety pen needle with dual protective shields, is launched
2012
First five-bevel needle point is manufactured (Pentapoint™)

BD’s shortest insulin syringe needle (6mm) comes to market
